Correction and Retraction

The Journal of Islamic Economics and Philanthropy (JIEP) upholds strict ethical standards and academic transparency to safeguard the accuracy of published research in Islamic economics, Sharia banking, zakat, waqf, and philanthropic studies. In line with the guidelines from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and DOAJ criteria, JIEP maintains structured procedures to address errors, analytical oversights, or ethical breaches discovered after publication. Depending on the gravity of the case, corrective actions include Publishing Errata/Corrigenda, Issuing Expressions of Concern, or Executing Article Retractions.

  1. Formal Corrections (Errata / Corrigenda)A formal correction is issued when a published paper contains minor typographical, numerical, or administrative errors that do not alter the main findings or overarching conclusions of the study. Examples include minor calculation errors, mislabeled charts, or inadvertent omissions in author affiliation/funding details. Authors should inform the editorial team immediately upon detecting such inaccuracies. Corrections are published as a separate, citable notice hyperlinked to the original article page.
  2. Expression of ConcernThe editorial board may issue an Expression of Concern if significant questions arise regarding the scientific validity, methodology, Sharia compliance interpretation, or research ethics of a paper, but initial evidence remains inconclusive. This notice serves to inform readers that an official inquiry or investigation is in progress. The statement remains attached to the online article until the case is fully resolved.
  3. Article RetractionA paper will be retracted if a formal review reveals serious flaws, major ethical transgressions, or severe unreliability in the research findings. Grounds for retraction include verified plagiarism, data fabrication or falsification, redundant publication, unauthorized use of financial datasets, or fundamental methodological errors. Authors will be given an opportunity to present an explanation before a final determination is made. When a retraction occurs, a public notice detailing the reasons for retraction is published and linked to the article. To maintain the integrity of the scholarly record, the original manuscript file remains accessible on the journal site marked with a clear "RETRACTED" watermark on each page.
